July is here, bringing with it cream teas, open air concerts and a new phenomenon in rural England – the scarecrow festival. Should you chance upon one, do take time to stop and marvel at the creations (often thought up over a pint or two in the local, I would wager). If you’ve never seen one before then try Battle, East Sussex (5th – 25th July) or Muston in East Yorkshire (24th – 31st July) but most of all do venture out and enjoy this lovely weather while it lasts!
Alan's third book of memoirs picks up his journey into adulthood, his burgeoning career and gardening. Knave of Spades is a great all round read and is out now. Details
